Today I was thinking about the meaning of the word egoist
According to the dictionary it said...egoist is "a person who is self-centered or selfish"
I just started thinking about it...
I just remember that time ago I read a passage which says: "One should be honest, just, benevolent etc., because those virtues serve one's self-interest, practicing those virtues with a reason other than self-interest is not egoistic"
for example:
"I open a supermarket thinking "mm, im gonna get money from this"
people come, and buy the products im selling, they use it and satisfied their necessities.
on the other hand I'm happy cuz im getting the money i want"
Some may said "ohh she is thinking about her own interest"- getting the money.
but am I the only one happy with this?
what about the people who buy my products, aren't they satisfying their also own necessities?
aren't they egoist too?
Well my point is....Egoist might counter with the assertion that furthering the ends of others is sometimes the best means of furthering one's own ends.
If being honest with one self is being egoist, well, I must say , an egoist person,I am.
As long as... I....
Let me be egoist about you.
